Dodge took top honors in the J.D. Power 2020 Initial Quality Study. This is the first time a domestic car maker has earned first place, ranking ahead of 31 competitors in this survey that looks at new vehicle reliability.
Problems in the first 90 days
J.D. Powers looks at problems that are reported by owners during the first three months after buying a new 2020 car or truck. The fewer problems, the better a car and its brand perform in the 2020 IQS. The test was redesigned this year to look at new technology that is included in today’s vehicles including infotainment technology, screens and controls, driver assistance, problems under the hood, exterior and interior issues and heating and cooling systems. Dodge’s score of 136 problems experienced per 100 vehicles garnered the top honors, a first for an American car line.
The FCA’s manufacturing facility in Toluca, Mexico, where the Dodge Journey is built, also won a Gold Plant Award for quality production. In previous years, Japanese auto manufacturers have gotten the top marks in the IQS awards, but domestic car makers have been climbing in the ranking lately, with Dodge and the FCA leading the charge.
